Social Media Trends That You Must Know In 2018
If you’ve been using Facebook and Instagram you’re most probably noticing regular changes that make you feel like someone has moved the tools in the shed overnight.
It’s important to know that the world of online marketing and social media is a forever changing landscape and as technology advances so does user behaviour.
So here are a few important trends due to dominate the industry in 2018 so you can stay ahead of your game and create the most successful engagement strategy possible.
1/ Content Creators:
Creating quality content is going to be even more of a necessity to stand out from your competitors. Companies will be looking for freelancers or companies who understand their business intimately to take care of all their content needs. This way these companies can continue to have a have a finger firmly on the pulse and create content relative to their brand.
2/ LIVE Video:
Facebook’s LIVE ain’t no new thing, but it will continue to grow exponentially. Everyone wants to get involved with Facebook LIVE. Marketers love it and people love watching them too. In fact, in the recent article from Zuckerberg himself, Facebook stated that they will be giving less focus to polished videos and provide more profile to personal content to increase scroll time and LIVE video can shine.
“In fact, 80% of users said they’d rather watch a live video than read a blog post, while according to Facebook, LIVE video gets 3x more views.” - Business2community.com
Let’s be honest, going LIVE is scary, but the beauty is that they are real, and authentic and have the opportunity to showcase excellent ‘Behind the Scenes” footage that brings personality to your business.
This follows on from my previous point in regard to LIVE videos. Transparency! Yes, transparency will be one of the most crucial elements of marketing. As much as there’s all this AI (Artificial Intelligence) coming out, consumers can smell it a mile away and still relate best to the good old human touch!
Think about it. Transparency and trust are already huge when it comes to signing contracts with new builders, and everyone reads reviews. They search for you online, find your social media profiles, and stalk you out before taking any next steps. Because everyone reads reviews, it’s important to make sure you get some on your Facebook Page.
4/ Mobile Video Consumption will Increase:
It’s no secret that people spend a lot of time staring at their phones, and we all know that social video is a big deal, so if your website is not mobile optimised, this is a big deal in a bad way. Basically, search engines are smart and they will penalise you if your website if it isn’t mobile-friendly.
“In 2018, mobile video consumption is expected to grow by 25% (and video consumption is supposed to decline on laptops and desktop computers for the first time ever).” - Social Media Today
5/ Digital Interaction, Locally:
Exciting news for local businesses, “Facebook Local APP” will give consumers a more localised social platform making it easier for them to find you off their friend’s recommendations and for you to interact with your audience locally - This is due to be released later in 2018.
Also, Local Insights in Facebook has just come through in the United States makes it easy to prove you’re trustworthy. A local focus this gives local businesses the chance to rise against bigger brands meaning that you guys will have to be more on-to-it than ever. We’re hoping to see this down under later in 2018.
Also, reviews will help with local search, so making sure you invite clients to throw down a review after you’ve done a stellar job is never a bad idea!
